School Nurse Professional Development Web Series

Highmark Foundation, in collaboration with Penn State PRO Wellness, is pleased to offer no-cost, pre-recorded professional development opportunities for school nurses.

Addressing Community Health in Schools

This collaboration will offer five pre-recorded, professional development trainings for school nurses throughout Pennsylvania. The School Nurse Professional Development Web Series will utilize physician experts from Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Allegheny Health Network to address select priority topics identified by school nurses.

We are no longer able to provide access to ACT 48/58 credit hours for completion of the pre-recorded, school nurse professional development trainings. Topic One: Dermatology - Rashes: Is it contagious? - NOW AVAILABLE

Featuring Nathan P. Oxenford, CRNP, Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center

This webinar identifies common rashes found in school-aged children such as bacterial, viral, fungal, infestations/infections; covers expected clinical course and appropriate treatment options, and implications of each rash as it relates to school attendance.

Topic Two: Mental Health - Depression, Anxiety and Medications - NOW AVAILABLE

This webinar provides a review of evidence-based treatments for depression, as well as a review of diagnosis and evidence-based treatments of anxiety disorders in children and adolescents.

Topic Five: Food Allergies - NOW AVAILABLE

This webinar aims to summarize food allergy prevalence, triggers and definition, and covers recognizing symptoms and reviewing treatment of anaphylaxis, preparing an Anaphylaxis Emergency Care Plan; exploring emotional impact of food allergy, setting priorities for managing food allergies, understanding recommendations for reducing risks of exposure, and translating guidelines into practice.
